Description

This book can be read as a complete standalone, as book 1 or as book 4 in the Wish novels. Intrigued...keep reading!

Growing up, I believed in infinite possibilities. I wished on stars and let my imagination prepare me for the unknown. The older you get the more you realize that you have power. You have been given the free will to control your own path. Jump into your destiny feet first.  And I knew for certain that no matter how much power I had, time was a luxury that would never be mine.

Unlike my mother and father, who were happy to live out their days on a Native American reservation in Colorado, I wanted to explore, to experience the many splendors the world could provide…before it was too late.

I couldn’t avoid the siren’s call of the big, wide-open world.

What I didn’t know was my life would be filled with challenges, highs, and lows the likes I couldn’t have prepared for. I have many bittersweet memories and even more where the sweet outweighs the bitter. Despite it all, I wouldn’t change a thing.

My experiences, my choices, have led me to where I am. Helped form the woman I’ve become.

A wife.

A mother.

A woman at peace with her destiny.

My journey has been rife with uncertainty, joy, fear, love, hate, strife, sacrifice, and everything in between. I’ve experienced unbelievable pleasure and gut-wrenching pain. Some may despise me for the choices I’ve made. Some may applaud them. Either way, I lived for today.

My name is Catori…and this is my story.

Audrey Carlan wrote a beautiful prequel story. We met her beautiful daughters, but Audrey has now given voice about the adventurous, loving, and selfless mother, Catori. Even if others judge her unusual relationship dynamic. Catori new at a young age that she was not meant to live a long life. So, when she was old enough, her parents encouraged her to go out and fly free. Live a life without regrets. Upon doing so, Catori meets Adam Ross and falls in love. They get married but she informs him before the nuptials of her limited time and her rules. This story catalogs her soul searing love for Adam, her love but heart breaking difficulties with her daughters, her unconditional love for her parents, her people, her community. Every persons story is a wish made on a star, living life, watching it unfold, until the universe eventually grants that wish. And Audrey Carlan wrote about it beautifully. Comment

I don't even know where to begin. It's been a few days since I finished Catori's story, and I still don't know how to put my feelings into words. After reading the stories of Catori's daughters I had an image of Catori that I wasn't sure I really liked. But this story, learning about Catori's background, changed everything! Do I agree with all of her choices...nope! But can I say with absolute certainty that if I was in her position I wouldn't have done the same things....nope! Catori has always had a desire to spread her wings and fly! To see everything of this world and have as many experiences as possible in the time that she's got. When she locks eyes with a stunning man named Adam while dancing with her dance troupe, her entire life changes. Their relationship is far from conventional, but for them it works. The love and trust that they have in each other is inspirational. I thank Audrey Carlan for sharing this amazing love story with us all. This story shows the absolute unending love that exists in all forms. Love between a man and a woman, and the all-powerful love of family.

Catori grew up on a Native American reservation in Colorado. True to the meaning of her name “free spirit”, she left the reservation at the age of 18 to explore the Earth. If Stars Were Wishes is a beautiful story of discovery, love, forgiveness, sacrifice and so much more. This book can be read as a stand-alone or a series and I love how Audrey wrapped up the series with Catori’s story.
  • A different, but great book

I wasn’t sure what to expect when starting this book. If you have read the 3 other Wish Series books, you have learned about Catori and some of the challenges the girls faced pertaining to their mom. This also isn’t the typical romance book. This book is about the journey Catori takes seeing the world, meeting her soulmate Adam and their unconventional life together. Many may not like some of the choices Catori makes in addition to their unconventional life and relationship, but Catori and Adam are perfect for each other. They also support and love each other for who they are and love their family above everything else. I really enjoyed getting more insight into Catori and Adam since their point of view is of course different from their daughter’s points of view that we saw in the previous books. This is a standalone but I do think it is probably much better after reading the first 3 books in the series. Another great book by Audrey Carlan.
  • Phenomenal story that stole my heart and my breath as it nestled deep within my soul!

If Stars Were Wishes stole the top spot as my favorite read of 2022! This story took me on a unique journey that was so special, it stole my heart and my breath! It’s absolutely unforgettable! I have never lived through so many emotions while reading a book that it felt like I was right there watching it play out in real life. I needed this story to be written because I had such mixed feelings toward Catori in her daughters’ books that I wanted to better understand the choices she made from her perspective. You need a shot and box of Kleenex because like me, your mind will probably be blown in the best way possible. The never-ending amount of love in this book between these characters is unforgiving and consumed me deeper as I read each page. Catori is such a free spirit unlike anyone I’ve ever known. Adam Ross is her soulmate, but he’s so much more! He’s steadfast and protective of his girls and grounds Catori in the most beautiful way, while still letting her fly and experience what the world has to offer. You need to read this book for her military man, Chicago, the girls, her parents, the bracelet, the choice and the letters alone. I was absolutely in awe of the beauty, hope, desire, pain, sacrifice and absolute devotion woven through the pages that nestled deep within my soul. If Stars Were Wishes is a brilliant end or even a life changing beginning, depending on where you start, to a phenomenal series that will live on in my mind and heart forever.
