Description

These three works use different forms to explore the idea of Winter: a time-lapse movie, a poem and a multimedia composition.
Early in December 2009 heavy snow fell on the South Downs above Brighton. Little changes in this short movie, unless you notice what does.
Midwinter began with the image of a blackbird diving at berries in a hawthorn tree, knocking them to the ground, where its partner retrieved this seasonal bounty.
For Tarkovsky was commissioned by Carla Rees, who performs this piece on quarter-tone bass flute. The images are an ultra-slow scan of Leonardo’s The Adoration of the Magi, separated into three sections, like anuneven triptych. If you know Andrei Tarkovsky’s last film, you will understand the choice of painting.
