Description

The new world is BROKEN.

Nothing in Ruby's life has ever been black and white. Even after successfully accomplishing her mission to save Wesley, the danger isn't past, and neither are the difficult decisions.

Solomon demands Ruby's return, but the Marked kids need her to stay with them. Their lives might even depend on it. Wesley begs her not to go, but it's not easy to ignore Solomon. Sam didn't come with them when they left the island, and ignoring a dictator's orders always leads to repercussions.

Doing what Wesley asks might make things worse for everyone. No matter what she decides, some people will die. Ruby must decide who she loves the most, and what she's willing to sacrifice to keep them safe.

I'm not one for reading books but as soon as I started reading the first one, I bought the second and read it twice as fast. I don't think I've ever felt such a roller coaster of emotions with reading a book before. I've cried, laughed, and felt what the characters are felling along the way. Such a great book!

This last book in this series was worth the wait. It was so good to see Ruby come into her own and grow into a powerful woman! Great series

How do you rise to a challenge that must be faced when all you want to do is curl up and grieve? That’s Ruby’s task. This book shows the value of having friends to help you move ahead. I’ve read this multiple times and love it.

Ruby is tired of being important, tired of needing to be a leader. Reeling from revelations about her family and from being dragged away helplessly as her boyfriend bleeds out, she wants to withdraw from everything to grieve. But time is running out for the people who have been Marked and she has to keep working toward a cure. Which means going head-to-head with David Solomon, the evil, unprincipled ruler of World Peace Now. Can she find the courage to combat him without losing herself? And can she balance the needs of so many who are depending on her, while learning to walk a political tightwire? I loved seeing Ruby’s character develop in this book as she is forced to step into new positions and learn a confidence she has never felt. She is tested mentally, physically, and especially emotionally and at times is ready to give up, but never wavers from her true purpose. She shows the qualities of a true leader: selflessness, empathy and understanding, and willingness to do what’s necessary. Amid hardship and betrayal, she comes to learn what truly makes family.
