Gillian Flynn says of Karin Slaughter: “I’d follow her anywhere.”

Sisters. Strangers. Survivors.

More than twenty years ago, Claire and Lydia’s teenaged sister Julia vanished without a trace. The two women have not spoken since, and now their lives could not be more different. Claire is the glamorous trophy wife of an Atlanta millionaire. Lydia, a single mother, dates an ex-con and struggles to make ends meet. But neither has recovered from the horror and heartbreak of their shared loss—a devastating wound that's cruelly ripped open when Claire's husband is killed.

The disappearance of a teenage girl and the murder of a middle-aged man, almost a quarter-century apart: what could connect them? Forming a wary truce, the surviving sisters look to the past to find the truth, unearthing the secrets that destroyed their family all those years ago . . . and uncovering the possibility of redemption, and revenge, where they least expect it.

Powerful, poignant, and utterly gripping, packed with indelible characters and unforgettable twists, Pretty Girls is a masterful novel from one of the finest writers working today.

There aren't enough trigger warnings in the world for this one. I felt so misled into reading this. Absolutely zero out of ten.

It’s the darkest she’s written. It’s true detective season 1 meets toy box killer. I’m a huge Slaughter fan but I prefer the will Trent - Sara Linton books.

As a 44 yr old mother and sister, this book resonated with me. The loss and trauma were difficult to read and it’s not my typical genre, but the author really got into the hearts and minds of every character in the book. I couldn’t put this one down.

Grotesque. The subject matter isn’t something anybody should want to read. You learn about things that exist in the world that you would never know or want to know. However, there’s no way to know this from the information about the book, which I think is this concerning. I kept thinking there would be some kind of twist to make it not so horrible but it just got worse and worse. There should be some kind of disclaimer.
