"Fourth Wing will have your heart pounding from beginning to end... A fantasy like you've never read before." ―#1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout

Enter the brutal and elite world of a war college for dragon riders from New York Times bestselling author Rebecca Yarros

Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders.

But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

With fewer dragons willing to bond than cadets, most would kill Violet to better their own chances of success. The rest would kill her just for being her mother’s daughter—like Xaden Riorson, the most powerful and ruthless wingleader in the Riders Quadrant.

She’ll need every edge her wits can give her just to see the next sunrise.

Yet, with every day that passes, the war outside grows more deadly, the kingdom's protective wards are failing, and the death toll continues to rise. Even worse, Violet begins to suspect leadership is hiding a terrible secret.

Friends, enemies, lovers. Everyone at Basgiath War College has an agenda—because once you enter, there are only two ways out: graduate or die.

The Empyrean series is best enjoyed in order.

This book snagged my attention and kept me hooked from the start. I hadn’t been swept up in a book like that since first reading the ACOTAR series. The characters, the romance, the plot, the DRAGONS. Perfection.
  • Good ideas, terrible execution.

Main character is unlikable and responds to everything like a particularly melodramatic thirteen year old. Author overuses hyperbole and manufacturers plot drama by having characters make nonsensical decisions. The drama were cool. Magic system was interesting. Won't continue with the series.
  • Exciting!

I wish I can give this book more stars. What a crazy journey this was. The PLOT TWIST at the end?!?! From the first couple of pages I was already enraptured with the story. This is the best book that I’ve read this year and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND everyone to read this!!!! Enemies to lovers, dragons, death college?! I mean seriously what can be more enthralling than a death college?! Rebecca, you NAILED IT! Thank you for writing everything I’ve ever wanted to read. I’m looking forward to reading your other books and of course the second book to this series, Iron Flame! Seriously go read this book. Just do it 🥹🐉

One star because of SJM Throne of glass. Specifically book 3, Heir of Fire, POV- Manon Blackbeak, the “wing leader”.
  • It’s just not for me.

There is nothing inherently wrong with the book itself, my review is solely on preference. I found myself comparing this story to that of Game of Thrones. I could appreciate the drama and the way things were revealed in the story, but I never felt truly taken with or involved in the story. For me, it was the way in which the story was written that didn’t match the story itself. It just didn’t feel cohesive or logical to the story.

The book was entertaining but I just felt like the swearing was unnecessary. Maybe it’s because I’m older or used to reading fantasy that doesn’t usually entail cussing/swearing. Kind of turned me off and I don’t think I’ll read the next one. I know a lot of people will probably disagree but the main character was really annoying to me.

The plot the romance the CHARACTERS everything is amazing. I can’t personally find anything to complain about. It’s the perfect book if you love a fantasy plot with a heavy side of romance.
  • A whole new world

This book unplugs you from real life… takes you back into a world among history, mystery, fantasy, and romance. There are so many “clues” along the way that can go unseen as the story is always deeper than the words on the page. This book is the perfect balance of fantasy and romance… If you’ve never read a fantasy story before, it is a great beginners fantasy story with lots of explanations and “history” to the fantasy elements. I HIGHLY recommend.
