#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Discover the global phenomenon that tells an unforgettable story of love, loss, and healing.

“Compellingly artful . . . [a] blockbuster memoir.”—The New Yorker (Best Books of the Year)

It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

For Harry, this is that story at last.

Before losing his mother, twelve-year-old Prince Harry was known as the carefree one, the happy-go-lucky Spare to the more serious Heir. Grief changed everything. He struggled at school, struggled with anger, with loneliness—and, because he blamed the press for his mother’s death, he struggled to accept life in the spotlight.

At twenty-one, he joined the British Army. The discipline gave him structure, and two combat tours made him a hero at home. But he soon felt more lost than ever, suffering from post-traumatic stress and prone to crippling panic attacks. Above all, he couldn’t find true love.

Then he met Meghan. The world was swept away by the couple’s cinematic romance and rejoiced in their fairy-tale wedding. But from the beginning, Harry and Meghan were preyed upon by the press, subjected to waves of abuse, racism, and lies. Watching his wife suffer, their safety and mental health at risk, Harry saw no other way to prevent the tragedy of history repeating itself but to flee his mother country. Over the centuries, leaving the Royal Family was an act few had dared. The last to try, in fact, had been his mother. . . .

For the first time, Prince Harry tells his own story, chronicling his journey with raw, unflinching honesty. A landmark publication, Spare is full of insight, revelation, self-examination, and hard-won wisdom about the eternal power of love over grief.

How could one find its way! It’s easy to understand how lost they all could be! In positions us mere mortals..feel we could have, would have, done it differently! For shame we should feel, yet, as humans we no longer value being open to truth and honesty! I feel the pain for William well !

In this unique memoir, Prince Harry finally gets to tell his side of the story after years of media control, reports from inside-place sources, and former friends. He tells a compelling heart wrenching story that proves that glitters is not gold. Freeing your mind is a special kind of freedom. Congratulations to the ghost writer whose use of vivid language created visuals unimagined.

Prince Harry is achingly candid. I knew much of his story. I ignored the paps stories as seeming too unreal, which Harry has confirmed. I have known him his whole life, like he was another nephew. And yet did not know him. Brave book.
  • A story about healing from trauma and a must read for anyone from a dysfunctional family.

This is hands down one of the best books I have ever read. I’m not usually super interested in biographies and autobiographies, but this book changed that for me. Although Prince Harry’s life is so seemingly unrelatable to most people, I found myself being able to relate to much of his childhood trauma and mental health struggles as he reached adulthood. Anyone who has chosen to break away from their dysfunctional family, anyone who was the scapegoat or grew up with toxic parents, anyone who lost a parent… this will speak volumes to you. It was healing and inspiring to read.

poorly written and boring in many parts. harry’s lack of reflection on waging war in the middle east is astounding. reading about him lamenting the fact that he couldn’t go to iraq, while knowing that the war was built on a lie was disgusting. he talked about being called the dumb one in this book, but I find i agree with that assumption. So grateful for the Duke of Sussex to have wanted to set the record straight, and to share a large part of himself in the process. I will not ever take the news regarding the Sussexes as truth again, unless it is validly from them. May your life be happy and as uncomplicated as possible.

Nice to hear words that come directly from the person that survived the turmoil. Unfortunate that the world doesn’t understand “live and let live”.
