Description

“One of the best thrillers of the year”—The New York Times

"The book is many things: a crime story, a psychological study, a blueprint for how and when to mete out information in a thriller. But most of all it is an inquiry into the mysteries of marriage and commitment, and into what we owe our spouses and one another." --The New York Times Book Review

Prepare yourself for a thrilling, addictive novel about marriage, betrayal, and the secrets that push us to the edge in this next book from the bestselling author of The Good Sister and The Younger Wife.

Picture a lovely cottage on a cliff, with sloping lawns, walking paths, and beautiful flowers. It’s Gabe and Pippa Gerard’s dream home in a sleepy coastal town. But their perfect house hides something sinister. The tall cliffs have become a popular spot for people to end their lives. Over the past several months, Gabe comes to their rescue, literally talking them off the ledge.

Until one day, he doesn’t. When Pippa discovers Gabe knew the victim, the questions spiral. . . .Did the victim jump? Was she pushed? And would Gabe, the love of Pippa’s life, her soulmate . . . lie? As the perfect façade of their marriage begins to crack, the deepest and darkest secrets begin to unravel. Because sometimes, the most convincing lies are the ones we tell ourselves.

I love Hepworth's novels; she really understands plot and character development. And very importantly, she knows when to stop! Unlike many of her contemporaries in this genre, her novels are never overly long. Well done!

Not one of my favorites of hers but still really good. Slow in spots but then she brings it all together!!! I did not see the twist at the end. Soooo good! I love a good twist!!! Really glad I read it!!

Torn, that is how I felt after finishing this book. So many lies, both intentional and not, And I guess the ending can be considered “happy” but what a terrible way to live. And still, is this considered “justice”? I found this book sad, just sad. It is a engaging read, but nothing much good comes from this one. Deep, sad, engrossing read.

Pippa and Gabe buy a house overlooking a cliff with breath-taking views near Melbourne, Australia. Little did they know that people came here either for the views or to end their lives. In the first year of living there, they called the police 7 times to prevent people from jumping. Gabe has taken it upon himself to save them until one day he doesn’t and they jump. Is it what it seems? What secrets will be unveiled and what will be discovered? This book will keep you guessing what Gabe’s connection is until all is revealed! Sally Hepworth is a master of unexpected twists and turns and shocking endings! This book will keep you entertained and turning the pages through it all. Just when you think you have figured it out, something else is revealed. I loved it! A perfect book to take with you on vacation, where you can read for hours. Be sure to add this to your TBR list! This book is hard to put down!
