Description

Stephanie Plum returns to hunt down a new kind of criminal operating out of Trenton in the twenty-eighth book in the wildly popular series by #1 New York Times bestselling author Janet Evanovich.

When Stephanie Plum is woken up in the middle of the night by the sound of footsteps in her apartment, she wishes she didn’t keep her gun in the cookie jar in her kitchen. And when she finds out the intruder is fellow apprehension agent Diesel, six feet of hard muscle and bad attitude whom she hasn’t seen in more than two years, she still thinks the gun might come in handy.

Turns out Diesel and Stephanie are on the trail of the same fugitive: Oswald Wednesday, an international computer hacker as brilliant as he is ruthless. Stephanie may not be the most technologically savvy sleuth, but she more than makes up for that with her dogged determination, her understanding of human nature, and her willingness to do just about anything to bring a fugitive to justice. Unsure if Diesel is her partner or her competition, she’ll need to watch her back every step of the way as she works to draw Wednesday out from behind his computer and into the real world in this “action-packed caper filled with crazy twists and some nail-biting suspense” (Booklist, starred review).

This is one of the craziest stories of all! A really fun read. Janet is a genius to write these books! I so love this book, you will too!

I loved it. Ms. Evanovich does not disappoint. I was reading while at my doctor’s appointment in the waiting room. Occasionally laughing out loud. People also waiting thought I was nuts.

I’m a huge fan of Janet Evanovich and I particularly like the Stephanie Plum series. Unfortunately, this book though did not live up to my expectations nor her standards. It came off as tepid. Stephanie had no spark, there was barely any humor & all her old trademarks seemed to be missing. There was no mention of the history between her and “the Italian Stallion,” there was no “smelled like Christmas cookies” or reference to our “mocha latte Cuban sex god”. Her relationship with Morelli was incredibly bland—why was he not jealous of Diesel? Why when Stephanie’s B&E FTA turned into a serial killer was Ranger not on top of the situation (or her)? Where was Diesel’s history? Perhaps this has to do with the change in publishers. If so, I can understand the downplaying of Diesel’s “abilities” (although it made for fun reading, I’ve never been a huge fan), but I think they’ve gone too far. I miss our Cupcake. That said, we definitely need more Babe (and Rex)!

Great storyline, very exciting right up until the end which sort of dangled and fell a little flat. I have read every book in the series and can hardly wait until the next one comes out.

I love Stephanie Plum! But she is starting to get stale. Maybe wrap it up? Joe doesn’t seem to love her, he always seems annoyed.
  • Disappointed

I’d be shocked if Janet wrote this book. All the characters were boring including my favorites Lula and grandma. They didn’t talk or act the same as they did in the other books. Even Ranger was boring. Janet needs to step it on the next one.Her loyal readers know her characters in and out.

This is probably the 15th book of Janet’s I’ve read. All of them pretty predictable but still entertaining.
  • Janet knows New Jersey like a Taylor Ham and Egg

I’ve read all of her novels, but this newest Stephanie Plum has upped her game. Modern references to Marvel movies, the Mets and cyber hacking. Fun diversion during rotten pandemic. Thx Janet!
