Description

KINGDOMS WILL RISE AND FALL FOR HER

Cat Fisa isn't who she pretends to be. She's perfectly content living disguised as a soothsayer in a traveling circus, avoiding the destiny the Gods—and her dangerous family—have saddled her with. As far as she's concerned, the magic humming within her blood can live and die with her. She won't be a pawn in anyone's game.

But then she locks eyes with an ambitious warlord from the magic-deprived south and her illusion of safety is shattered forever.

Griffin knows Cat is the Kingmaker—the woman who divines truth through lies—and he wants her to be a powerful weapon for his newly conquered realm. Kidnapping her off the street is simple enough, but keeping her by his side is infuriatingly tough. Cat fights him at every turn, showing a ferocity of spirit that burns hot...and leaves him desperate for more. But can he ever hope to prove to his once-captive that he wants her there by his side as his equal, his companion...and maybe someday, his Queen?

Discover exciting bonus material, including maps, illustrations, and an expanded look at the world of Thalyria. Fans of Jennifer Armentrout, Scarlett St. Clair and Sarah J. Maas will burn for this spicy romantic fantasy.

This is one of those stories where the descriptions pull you in. The heroine is flawed, sometimes annoying but understandably does what she does because of her past history—not farfetched. The people around her are flawed. It has battles and adventure. It has romance—if you can stomach it. I don’t want to spoil it, but heroine pretty much gets kidnapped and falls for her kidnapper as he smiles at her, and more or less bullys her, and tries to force her to be loyal to him. And she hates it, till she kind of doesn’t. If you can stomach that, then you can get to the juicier plot points—most of which are predictable but the fun is still there. My issue is how abruptly this books ends though. If I didn’t get into it now when there’s already three books out I would have been mad. Though I am not amused by that $7.99 pricing for book 3 :P All in all, it’s what I want from a fantasy and adventure story. It’s steamy bits do the job. It was a fun read I didn’t want to stop.

There’s a name for this romance. It’s called Stokholm Syndrome. I found myself constantly irritated that our 23 year old heroine Cat, one of the most powerful beings on the continenet, had the emotional maturity of a 15 year old. She came from a damaged and brutal background and after finally escaping and finding friends and family with her circus she is forcibly abducted by Griffin. And because he’s hot and smiles at her she falls for him? Naturally. I guess we are supposed to forget he kidnapped her and held her prisoner? All of course while telling her they belong together and he cares for her….because the whole captor thing doesn’t make it remotely manipulative and predatory. I feel like from Cat we get this whole vibe of “I’m fierce and ruthless! Kill or be killed! Oh but that ones good looking and says he cares for me so I’ll bend to his will and become a blushing school girl.” The book has its moments and if they would have changed her love interest to someone else, maybe a God or demi-God, or you kow anyone doesn’t drag her from her home and tie her to a rope, I could have really gotten into it.

I normally don't read in the fantasy genre but I came across this book and it sounded interesting so I gave it a try. It was a very good decision. The book has humor, romance, sarcasm, myths and Cat's life will tear at your heartstrings. As soon as I finished I bought book 2 so that I could continue the story. The only bad thing is now I have to wait until next January for the 3rd book.

I like stories with love, adventure, and humor…There seem to be so few to be found! Most romance novels I find to be lacking in one way or another but this was a wonderfully satisfying story…I cannot hardly wait until January for the next one! Wonderful characters…original story…sexual tension throughout…really - it doesn’t get much better than this!

It's hard finding authors who know how to write really greats stories. With characters that are funny and relatable, and with scenes that actually make you laugh out loud and also make you feel like your heart is being torn out along with the characters. There is only a handful of authors that I would buy their book without even reading the back, simply because they wrote it, and I'm excited to say that Amanda Bouchet is now one of them!!
